Des had always prided herself on being one step ahead of her patients, modifying her treatment strategy and approach to optimize their response. Yet she'd been outmaneuvered by a sharp-eyed crone who didn't want to be bossed around. But hadn't Tina Jeffrey grabbed onto that golden opportunity with both meaty mitts?
Since her first day, when Des had challenged the clinic's antiquated methodology, the two had been at loggerheads. Des sighed. Naturally, she'd reacted with her customary tact, which was to say none. The word bitch had come up, as had the phrase when hell freezes over. Plus a few choice tidbits in Spanish that probably drove her boss even further up the wall. Even if the complaint was withdrawn and Des was reinstated, she could never work under the same roof as Tina again. The hot rush of injustice rose again. She was good at what she did, damn it. Okay, so she pushed harder than other physiotherapists, so she took risks.
She got results. In the end, her patients thanked her. On their feet. Des pulled her little sports car to a stop in front of the guesthouse and sat quietly for a moment, listening to the tick-tick-tick of the cooling engine before silence descended. The darkening sky above and the endless expanse of snow-covered hills all around made her feel like a rabbit looking for cover.
How did people live out here in all this She needed the reassuring hustle-bustle of the city, the noise, the shopping Rory had urged Des to get away and spend some time with her at the ranch. Then she'd thrown Des a challenge she knew would be irresistible: their good friend and neighbor was running out of medical coverage, without being anywhere near recovered from the car accident that almost killed him.
A week ago, she'd have been all over a case like this, eager to help a broken man regain his life. Now, the thought of dealing with another frightened, angry patient—and his family—made her break out in a cold sweat. But it wasn't Joe Gamble or even the prospect of failing that scared her. At least, not entirely. It was the thought of working around Joe Gamble's son Zachary that had her nerves jitterbugging. And not in a bad way. Zach's lazy cowboy grin was irresistible when he aimed it her way, and although Des had given no quarter, she was pretty sure he knew the verbal jousting was merely her opening salvo.
She was there for one reason, and one reason only. However, if she'd had a little spare time, she might have spent it with Zach. Why not? He was a carefree bachelor, enjoyable company, rumored to treat women well, and—most importantly—not looking for commitment. She wasn't averse to a bit of fun, and the first time they met, he'd made it clear that he was willing to play, but that's as far as they'd gotten.
She tried to imagine Zach's face without the grin, his voice without the banter, his eyes without the spark, and it made the muscles in her chest and throat constrict. Because, grin or no grin, there was no way Des would end up like Rory, stuck out here with straw in her hair. You've got enough of your own. She walked around the porch to the back of the guesthouse, and there stood Rory's mini-SUV.
Des breathed a sigh of relief, then went closer and peered in. Lulu's car seat and various toys littered the vehicle that stood tucked under the carport. Farther back, by the original ranch house that was still undergoing renovations, she could see Carson's pickup truck.
As she trudged through the snow toward it, she could hear the muffled sounds of a nail gun. And voices. Des pushed open the door. A burst of warm air, tangy with the scent of freshly cut wood, rushed against her face. A bang sounded in another room, then footsteps. Her best friend ran out to greet her, grinning widely, baby on her hip, her shaggy dog squeezing ahead of her.
But I don't care. There's the untamed mustang he's prepping to release into the wild, not to mention his father's crazy will, which stipulates that if Carson wants to fully inherit Three River, he'll need to find a bride. Carson wants nothing to do with love and especially not a marriage of convenience. But he soon realizes Rory, and everything she represents, might just be exactly what he needs.
Sometimes love arrives on your doorstep when you least expect it…. I wouldn't have bought it, had I realized. So I am a disgruntled reader and I wish I had my 99 cents back. At least the FMC wasn't a pregnant vampire-werewolf time traveler submissive: it could always be a less appealing story line. I should have taken time to read an excerpt and reviews. Family dynamics that add to the story, rather than annoy?
Witty banter to hold your attention? Sex scenes to curl your toes and make you wish for a hot cowboy of your own? Check, check! The strength it takes for Zach to keep his family afloat is awe inspiring and the way Des step up to help out is so sweet. I love that the self proclaimed city girl is willing to get dirty to make things just a little bit easier for this family and for Zach.
Sometimes we lead. Sometimes we follow. Sometimes we get lost. Mar 10, Rhianna rated it it was amazing. When a car accident not only took his brother's life but left his father severely impaired physically, Zach Gamble was left to run the family ranch alone. With debt piling and the family struggling with grief he's done the best he can to hold it all together. Enter Desiree Burke, annoying friend of a friend. Des is on leave after a work incident has forced her to be suspended.
Helping the Gamble family get their patriarch back on his feet seems like a win-win situation. But the magnetism between she and Zach complicates things as they both try to balance their need for professionalism with the possibilities they find in one another. Can a city girl and a rancher overcome their past hurts and give in to the emotions trying to bring them together? Talk about a surprisingly deep offering from the category shelves. To my complete shock I liked them even better. Her past in the foster system was unexpectedly good for the overall arc of the story.
His grief was so real and his own struggle with being adopted made him the kind of guy you can't help but want to have that much needed heart-to-heart that will heal his hurt. Every secondary character is there at just the right time and in just the right way to make it a fleshy story in spite of the short format. It's not just a romance, it's one of those healing kinds that's ridiculously satisying when it ends.
Any issues I had with the story are silly things I'm probably the only reader who'd balk at There isn't a Montana native whether from the city or not that'd risk such a costly mistake.

But little things like that work in category romance enough even I forced myself not to weep over the thought of doing that. It's one of those emotional roller coaster ride romances that will leave you on the edge of your seat for more than just whether Zach and Des can work it out. Loved it! Note: Review copy received via publisher. However, Rory ended up staying at Three River. Which happens to be a good thing, because Des is having a tad bit of problem at the beginning of the story and needs a change of scenery.
Plus, Carson's buddy Zach is in need of help and Des is the perfect person to help. After all she happens to be an excellent physical therapist. She might be the right person to help Zach's father recover and possibly the rest of the family. I really enjoyed this story. I love the dynamics between the hero and the heroine. Especially when they are so similar in so many ways and yet contrast in others. Both of them carry a lot of responsibility on their shoulders, but so afraid to ask for help.
Des has abandonment issues, so when things look unsteady she picks up and leaves before they can get worst. Plus, she tends put out this personal that she's better than you attitude, which tends to put people off like Zach's sister. However, that all stems from her childhood. Goodness, childhood can be rough. Zach being the oldest of Gamble family has some serious issues. They seem to come out more after the car crash. A lot has to do with survivors guilt and other underline issues. For instance, wonder if his parents truly loved him even though he was adopted and his other siblings were biological that does take a toll on a person.
Overall, a good read. Snopek is able to bring to joy out of the darkness in this story. Yes, it is heart-tugging with a family conquering the struggles of life. One of my favorite lines in the story sum up the ups and downs of life perfectly: "Sometimes we lead. But the main thing is, we're on the journey together.

She have to heal Zach's father who was paralysed because of an accident. Zach's brother, Cale, died in that accident and Zach blames himself for what happened. When I saw the cover all I thought about was a hot summer on the farm, but actually in the book was winter, and was a cold winter : I love the animals si I loved that in this book were horsed, cats and dogs. I wished once I still do to ride a horse, a black horse : Zach was almost to lose his family's ranch, his ranch, but fortunately this wasn't happening because of Des.
She helped Joe, Zach's father, and after all, he was recovering very well. Between Zach and Des is a bound and they can't deny it. In book were kisses and they were described very well. Zach had a trauma after that accident and Des helped him to go over that. Feb 21, Hsiau Wei rated it liked it Shelves: books-read-in , for-review. Zach, who have survived the accident that has killed his brother and caused his father to be on a wheel chair is determine to shouldered onto their family business or risk losing it. In addition to that, he is burying the guilt that he survived the accident and that his parent lost their fresh and blood son instead of him.
As they have met before, the attraction between Desiree and Zach sparked. There are too many burden that the main characters of this book is carrying and when Zach finally able to confront and solved his issues, Desiree is at the losing end in her own battle. Although this is a second book in a series, it can be read as a standalone. The most dramatic scene to me after reading this book is when Zachary finally talked to his father about his guilt after the tragedy, It really grip at me emotionally and i can really feel their anguish.

Read More Aug 20, Lyndi W. Those were some of the most interesting parts of the story. The characters were a bit frustrating - it felt like everyone was determined to make and keep themselves miserable. The sex between Zach and Des happens off-page, fade to black kinda thing.
It's mostly heated glances and a couple stolen kisses. Tame, but still an enjoyable story. I loved the interaction between Desiree and Zach, and loved watching the romance bloom from the small spark to overcome their fears and stubbornness. A wonderful story. This was a fantastic book, from the minute I started to the second I finished it, I loved it! It was an emotional roller coaster of emotional ups and downs, family turmoil and tough love.
It was a book filled with so much more than just a story, the characters felt so real and there were times where I laughed at their antics, then at times cried like a baby.
This story pulled at my heart strings in more ways than I can count. The writing was beautiful and flowed on the pages, it was captivating, This was a fantastic book, from the minute I started to the second I finished it, I loved it! The writing was beautiful and flowed on the pages, it was captivating, passionate and so romantic. Des is a spitfire, she is a strong independent woman who speaks her mind and does what she wants, when she wants and how she wants. She runs into some trouble with her job and decides its time to get away for a while and goes to visit her good friend Rory.
She is talked into rehabbing Rory's neighbors dad, who was in a serious accident. This also means spending time with Zach, the man who she had a brief encounter with, but one who makes her insides melt. Zach has such a tortured soul and because of a recent family tragedy he is conflicted with his feelings of guilt and on how he fits in with his family.
Now is when his family needs him the most, and that is where Des seems to come into the picture, she is there to help fix things Zach and Des are perfect together, they have great chemistry and the sexual tension between them is thick. They both need each other but constantly push each other away. Neither one is perfect but that is what makes them so real. I also enjoyed reading about Carson and Rory and being able to read about how happy they are now. Bliss and Blythe also get some time in the book. I fell in love with Zach's parents especially his father, and the relationship that he forged with Des was truly heartwarming.
The heartache and healing that this family had to face was insurmountable, but this book just shows us how important family and love are and how those things alone make anything possible. I would definitely recommend this book to those looking for a great romance. It is about making your dreams come true, the importance of family and Love all wrapped up in one great book. I would recommend reading the first book in this series first, although it could be read as a stand alone I would not recommend it.
